Question: Potential overheating/coolant loss

Coolant level drops, faint hot coolant odor, and imagined higher temp gauge indication

If the coolant level consistently drops, and especially if you smell coolant, you probably have a cooling system leak. A visual check may find the issue. If not, a dye may be added to make it easier to see, especially if you use an ultraviolet lamp. A pressure test can also be used to determine where the leak is, and a block test will indicate if the head gasket is good or not.
