Question: crankcase fluid

Site says this was to be replace at 12000 mi. Is this the same as transmission fluid? Manual doesn't refer to crankcase fluid, and I'm not clear on what the term means. Can someone clarify?

Your crankcase fluid is your engine oil. The crank case is the lower part of your engine and is so named because that's where the crankshaft is, and it's covered by your oil pan which is the reservoir for your engine oil and also where your oil drain plug is located. Using the term crankcase is accurate but dated. All the oldtimers knew it as a crankcase but you don't often see that term in modern manuals, thus why it's not referred to that way in your manual. Your crankcase fluid will always be the same as "engine oil".
